50 Years!

I lost Jacob, my 36 year old son, Monday. Died in his sleep. Cause undetermined at this time. I'm crushed. He should've had another 50 years with us. Life is unpredictable and harsh.

See ya later, Jacket.

Moving and Planting Day

The banties transferred over to the big girl side of the pens and I closed them off. Everybody was inside the big coop, last night, except Chatty. I saw her sleeping on the porch. She's safe enough, I reckon, and will eventually go inside. Perhaps, this move will break her broodiness.

Made a few smaller beds around the yard instead of the one larger one. Squash and cucumbers are in the ground. Still have more but, uncertain where to till has me on hold. The larger area will be for tomatoes and the banty pen will be made into a greenhouse this fall.

Pallet Wood Table Complete

Starting this table in the winter was the wrong time of year. But, it's finally finished. I added the design as a surprise. Anybody know where it's from?

Kitchen Doo-dads and a Fence

Finally go around to installing the Christmas gifts I made.

Same as above pic

...with privacy fence prices at $35 a section (Lowe's) I decided to utilize pallets for my last side of fence. These still need to be filled in but, I'm liking it.

Pallet Wood Table

My step-daughter asked if I could make this for her. I obliged but, started it at the wrong time of the year. Too cold. Too wet. Too windy. But, I piddled my way through the winter and with spring, I'm slowly getting back in the swing of building again.

Eggs, Bullies and a Goose

An assortment of sizes. Lt to Rt - Wilma, Cochins, Goose, Esther.

Time out for the banty bully. If she keeps it up, I'll move her to the big girls pen.

Goose is all puffed up taking a nap.

Spring is Close

Trying some new items this year. I figure one plant each will be an enormous amount of maters.

I took one of my pallet tables and put extensions on it for a work area for the 'on sale' greenhouse.

All our favorites and one questionable. Zukes, Crook-neck and summer squash, crystal apple cukes (didn't produce last year)

7 varieties of maters.

A new addition. Wilma. Bantam gold-laced seabright.

The Birds

So far, winter hasn't had much of a say around here. A couple of frosty mornings and cold days but...

We have a whole flock of doves - call them the grounds crew - they're always cleaning up beneath the feeders. I caught this one checking out a new tray feeder the whoa-man picked up the other day.

...and then Morton came in for some suet. Only to be run off by some pesky sparrows.

I Read It In A Magazine..

The MIL asked if I could build a magazine rack for her youngest daughter. Here's what I did.

Pallet Wood Projects

I believe it was Christmas day when I asked 'the boy' about some pallets he may be throwing away at work. Said, he always does and would give me a text next time. He did and I picked some up.

A couple hardwood and some more made of pine. Let me tell you, disassembling these is no easy feat. But, it only took about 20 minutes per.

Let's see what my first project was and you tell me if the investment was worth it.

Turned out pretty, me thinks.
